Discussion #4 Stimulating Social Interaction

When I think of Web 2.0, I think of all things social.  To me, web 2.o starts with a single user and ends with multiple users sharing and collaborating about a common interest.  In Discussion #2 Katrina pointed out several features of web 2.0 tools that stimulate social interaction.  I agree with what she wrote because when it comes to wikis, blogs, microblogging, RSS, and RSS readers, the main goals are to share and communicate information with others.

Tools like blogs and even twitter these days are used in classrooms, conferences, and even large social gatherings to allow users unique outlets to keep up with important information.  Last year I attended a conference and the presenter used twitter to allow the audience to ask questions and receive answers using the hash tag, very similar to how we are using it in class.  On my last task we used wikis to present basic information about our organization, courses, and what we provided to a general audience in an organized fashion.

Something else that Katrina mentioned that stands out to me is the fact that these specific tools allow users the opportunity to view and share information through subscriptions.  When you subscribe to anything you typically receive emails, or some form of notification letting you know that something new is available.  This in my opinion is a really big deal in regards to social interaction.

My First Post

I used to consider myself a pretty decent blogger until recently.  I haven’t had the time to dedicate to my writing and I’m trying desperately to get back into it.  I used to write for the Examiner when I had the time, but since my job has become a bit more demanding I’ve lost the desire.  My goal this semester in this class is to get back into Social Networking and to practice using my web 2.0 skills.
